Amazing 10-Year-Old Summer Beats Emetophobia!
The wonderful 10 year old Summer has just completed the Emetophobia-Free programme and is completely now over her fear of being sick!
Summer was supported on her journey by her mum Susan and they have both kindly taken the time to join us on the podcast to share their experience.
Susan describes how difficult life was as a family when Summer was suffering from Emetophobia. Summer started to show symptoms around the age of 5 when she wasn’t keen to be in the car, was openly scared of the idea of being sick herself and would become visibly distressed when others around her were sick. Summer’s symptoms escalated to the point where she was lashing out, self-harming, wearing sick bands daily, running away from school, struggling to leave the house and get through normal day to day activities.
After trying lots of different interventions with little success, Summer and Susan both fully committed to the children’s Emetophobia-free programme (in which the parent works through the adult manual alongside their child) and in just 15 weeks Summer has gone from battling through each day to being Emetophobia-Free and loving her life!
Susan describes how she was initially doubtful and didn’t believe the programme could work but is now 'eating her words’ as she finally has her little girl back.
Susan and Summer both worked incredibly hard to get to where they are now and wanted to join us on the podcast to encourage any other families struggling with this phobia to reach out and get the help they need.
Susan: ‘In one word the programme is amazing…. it really is life-changing.’

------------------------
Emetophobia is the fear of vomiting/sickness: either yourself, other people, or both. Research suggests 0.1 to 8.8% percent of the population have a fear of being sick (Hout & Bouman, 2011). Emetophobia is a debilitating phobia, which significantly impacts your life: sufferers are chronically anxious and go to great lengths to avoid encountering anything sickness-related, which provides temporary relief but often results in a rollercoaster of anxiety, fear and exhaustion. Issues associated with emetophobia include: OCD, eating difficulties, anxiety-related gastric problems, phagophobia, tocophobia and more. Our goal is to raise awareness of this severe phobia and provide a solution for sufferers and their families.
You do not need to live with Emetophobia - you can COMPLETELY overcome it - just like all the people in these videos did - all the ex-emetophobes in this UA-cam channel used the special Emetophobia version of The Thrive Programme to overcome their phobia. If you are emetophobic, or know someone who is, you can no doubt relate to many of the experiences people share in their testimonials. We hope this reassures you that you’re not alone, and that you do not need to live with this debilitating phobia forever.
The Thrive Programme for Emetophobia (also known as Cure your Emetophobia and Thrive) is the single most successful and predictable method for getting rid of your emetophobia. It has helped over 20,000 emetophobes around the world overcome their phobia.
You can study the programme at home by yourself with a workbook (currently being translated into a number of other languages, as well as a version for the Visually Impaired), a comprehensive online course, or be guided through with a specially-trained Thrive Programme Coach® (face to face or online). Whatever way you choose, the results are predictable, and give you the tools to overcome it, for good.

Mary is such an inspiration. I’m on week 4 of the programme and I am feeling all the changes…..I’m completing all the required Actions every day not missing one and I think I’ve listened to every single podcast episode 3 times over! I feel so confident in beating this. I am getting emotional writing this because I truly thought this would be something I would just need to learn to live with 🥲 Thank you so much to the amazing Rob Kelly and his team Thank you thank you thank you 🥰

Happy to see Joe back on the podcast. This was my favorite one so far. I definitely relate to all of it. I love this program so much. I was going to say it gave me my life back but since I had emetophobia from age 7 to age 54 I can honestly say that it gave me a life that I never knew was possible. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!

This is amazing!!! 🤩🤩🤩 Life just gets better and better doesn't it? I feel like the more you realise you can now do, the more you want to keep pushing yourself to try new things that 7-54 year-old you wouldn't have ever dreamed of. The sky's the limit!!

@@Emetophobiafree Absolutely! Now anytime I see something that looks interesting I just go do it. I don’t even think twice about it. My sons are always commenting on how different my life is now. I wish I would’ve heard of it sooner but I don’t dwell on that either. I’m just grateful for every day!!! I tell EVERYONE about the Thrive Program. I’ve also bought the manual for several people. I can’t recommend it enough.

I see mine! Did the Thrive programme in early 2020, to be honest I stopped after a while but changed my mindset altogether with the help of THRIVE mindset ideas, and in just over a year I had overcome SOOO much. I dreamed of being a paramedic so did an ambulance ride along and held the sick bag as a rubbish bag (would NEVER of done this ever). went on a plane twice (so glad I did, found my love of flying and I'm working towards my private pilot licence!) went to a concert where a guy was drunk and I took myself back to the time where I made posters around my house with positive things about emetophobia and just enjoyed it, minimal panic. Mum had weight loss surgery so gets sick every now and then....I can confidently hear/watch her be sick with no panic (only small amounts, bigger stuff is still something I have to overcome, sorry if a bit too much information lol). I watch people throw up on TV shows...real and fake, hear people gag etc and to be honest..I laugh sometimes lol. (Mean to laugh I know but it's something SO HUGE for myself). 16 year old me in early 2020 was so upset about half of these things possibly ever not happening but now 20 year old me is basically emetophobia free! and all of those things did happen and guess what I lived 😂 Bit of a long story (really long lol) but thank you so much for this programme, you help SO many people and I don't think anyone can properly thank you 🤩❤😁😁😁.

Thank you so much for this video! I have been struggling with Emetophobia for over 8 years now. And I never felt truely understood by many people, including many of my therapists. Your videos help me to understand more about myself. And also encourage me to keep working on myself and pushing through it. Especially the social anxiety and personal disgust has never been mentioned anywhere. And it always felt like my main problem. Fearing how others perceive me, how I perceive myself after throwing up. That I'm disgusting. These videos help so much and I'm thankful for people who take the time to help us. Keep it up ❤️🙏

Joe.....I dislike the word SHOULD too! Massively. It suggests that you (or someone else) has done something incorrectly when that is not necessarily accurate. I am so pleased to hear someone dislikes the word too! I haven't got to the language section of the book yet and maybe words like this aren't covered but that word and the word disgusting are banned from our house. I make a conscious effort to avoid these strong emotion invoking words and opt for different words or phrases instead 🤷🏻‍♀️. My children don't even say disgusting, we try to say something might be unpleasant rather than disgusting for example and I try my best to never tell them they SHOULD have done something 🤷🏻‍♀️ Thank you to both you and Rob for creating these podcasts. They are invaluable 😊
